Remapping special japanese keys

Dec 29, 2010 at 1:33 AM

I have a US keyboard, but because I often type Japanese, I would like to have access to some of the special keys that are present on Japanese keyboards. I was hoping that there would be some way that I can remap some unused keys such as right alt and right ctrl, so they would function like the japanese keys. I would like to have a henkan key, and a hiragana/katakana key.

Some information about the keys is written here: http://www.win.tue.nl/~aeb/linux/kbd/scancodes-8.html

I would greatly appreciate if someone could help me with this.

I would like to point out that I have found a solution to my problem.

The microsoft IME (or google IME) allows you to remap what functions each key performs. However, it doesn't allow you to map anything to the alt, ctrl, or caps lock keys, which is the reason I looked to sharpkeys.

My solution was to use Sharpkeys to remap my caps lock, right alt, and right ctrl keys to the F13, F14, and F15 keys.  I was then able to map functions to these keys within the IME settings.
